Patron of the Arts Gallery: Reformation- Movement in Color, original oil paintings by Megan Wolfe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – Patron of the Arts is pleased to present Reformation: Movement in Color, an online solo show debuting a series of small scale, oil paintings by artist Megan Wolfe. This is the first solo show by Wolfe to be released exclusively through the Patron of the Arts Gallery Shop, and compliments her select, graphite works on paper that are currently available. The new paintings will be released online at the Patron of the Arts Gallery Shop on February 13th, 2012.

Reformation: Movement in Color marks the emergence of color into Megan Wolfe’s abstract body of work, as well as her much anticipated entry into painting. The series builds on Wolfe’s previous works inspired by birds in motion, and translates the organic energy of her graphite drawings to the dynamic, sculpted quality of oil paint on wood panel.

For these paintings, Wolfe drew inspiration from the multitude of colors and variety of patterns found within feral pigeons. Utilizing both palette and steak knives, Wolfe applied and cut away paint to emphasize the unique appearance of each bird, and to leave the viewer with the impression that each image was somehow carved.

Paintings from Reformation: Movement in Color will be available for immediate purchase online through the Patron of the Arts Gallery Shop on February 15, 2012. For more information, please

ARTIST STATEMENT

"I initially started my artistic commentary with a series of high-realism, pencil drawings, centered around pigeons, peeling bark, and weeds. In the last year, it dawned on me that realism had it’s limitations in exploring the emotional and psychological aspects of ‘urban nature’. Because of that, my work is becoming increasingly abstract, but still maintains aspects of realism.

Controlled chaos is what nature is, and so my drawings are becoming more true to my subjects."-Megan Wolfe
